VP Debate

I promised my wife I wouldn't turn our blog into a space for political diatribes, but watching some of the post-VP debate spin by the TV pundits, I feel obliged to make the following comment:

If you watched this evening's VP debate, and you honestly believe that Sarah Palin exists in the same league as Joe Biden...you and I watched different debates.   Good God, the woman is nearly unwatchable.

Well, had some friends over for a debate party, and it even though there was only one Republican present, everyone agreed that Palin did a fantastic job tonight. Some of her answers didn't have a lot of substance, but she was the clear winner (at least with our group of 9).

Palin had her work cut out for her tonight with Joe Biden constantly making up facts that weren't true, but she held her own. I had no doubts because she is a Master Debater. Had you seen this website before, you would have known this:

agreed 14th&U.. clearly she was told if she couldn't answer a question just change the subject and start talking about something else. She was composed though so I suppose in that regard she did "well". Won the debate? No way.

COMEDY.

Here's the thing: her performance on the (now) infamous Couric interview will go down as one of the all-time most dreadful performances by a mainstream American politician. There was no way she was going to acquit herself that poorly during last night's debate. Thus, using the Couric and Gibson interviews as litmus tests, she was certainly more composed last night.

But my goodness, when did the litmus test for presidential candidates get moved so low? Joe Biden gave an outstanding debate performance, yet I am somehow supposed to be awed by the fact that Palin knows who Ahmadinejad is and says things like "you betcha"? This is nothing more than the expectations game rearing its head. If you expected Palin to be as discombobulated as she was during the Couric interview, then she likely surpassed your expectations last night. By any other measure however, last night's debate wasn't even close.

It probably got moved "so low" in 1960 when Kennedy beat Nixon because he 'didn't sweat.' That's your honest answer from a Democrat.

Leave the politics off the blog please.

I consider myself a moderate, but Obama supporter in full disclosure. Palin was bad last night. Anyone who thinks she is in the same league wasn't watching the same debate. Biden, meanwhile, looked better and more presidential than Obama.

All I can say is that politics is like a religion to Mr. 14th & You because of the important consequences of the decisions of our national government. He is so inspired by politicians whom he admires, that sometimes his political thoughts leak into all aspects of life. I admire his passion (which I guess is why we're married). Maybe, just maybe, I can get him to confine his comments to Huff Post ; ). In the interest of full disclosure, we had just finished a debate drinking game when this post went up.
