Even though violent crime is down overall from the same period last year, the Logan/U Street area seems to be picking up. We've had reports of multiple muggings and robberies during the past few weeks, and now we have a murder.
According to the Washington Post, early this morning at around 12:40 AM an unidentified man was gunned down along the 1300 block of T Street. Two MPD officers on patrol a block away responded immediately to the sound of gun shots and found the man, who had been shot multiple times. A dark colored SUV was seen near the time of the shooting.
As you may recall, last September two people were shot--one dead, one wounded--on T Street, only a block away from the location of this shooting.
Anyone with information is asked to call the MPD's tipline at 202-727-5099.

T Street Murder: A Link to Fort Washington Double “Assassination?”
May 26, 2009 by mattyillini | Edit
The T Street murder story gets worse. Now it is being linked to this: “Double Murder Called ‘Targeted Assassination.’ “
The murder of Carl Ashton O’Neil Gray Fitzgerald at 12:40 a.m. Tuesday on the 1300-block of U Street NW may be linked to a double “assassination” style murder in Fort Washington, Maryland, about a half hour later. (Read MPD news release on the murder.) This possibility is explained in a story from Channel 9-WUSA:
FORT WASHINGTON, Md. (WUSA) — The murder of a couple in their home early Tuesday may be linked to a fatal shooting about a half-hour before at a nightclub in DC, according to Prince George’s County police. Keith Jordan, 44, and his fiance, 48-year-old Audrey Bryant, were shot during a confrontation inside Bryant’s home in the 4000 block of Oaklawn Road in Fort Washington, just after 1 a.m. Tuesday.
According to another story in the Washington Examiner, police have “substantial leads” in both murders.
Thanks to Sri for his comment on the original posting that led me to the Channel 9-WUSA story.
The DC Police Alert system (http://72hours.dc.gov) is another crime fighting tool that helps the public become active in reporting and maybe solving a crime. It sends electronic notices with detailed suspect descriptions to people's emails or cell phones within 5-10 minutes of a reported crime.
The police can't do it alone. Putting more eyes on the street and making people aware of their surroundings will go a long way to reducing crime! Sign up for the DC Police Alert system at http://72hours.dc.gov.

I am not discounting the violence of recent events, but I have to say that anyone who has lived in an urban district (including London) understands that when the weather gets warmer, folks come out from under their rocks. And, sometimes drive in from Maryland and Virginia.
This is not to say that people need to or should avoid the commercial district during the spring/summer months. On the contrary. Revel in entertainment of DC's patios and good times. I'm just saying, please be aware of your surroundings as you walk around this wonderful community.
Very true, verb. Although I would amend your statement to say that people should *always* be aware of the surroundings when walking through or spending time in an urban neighborhood, be it Logan or elsewhere. Particularly with mugging crimes up, it's important to keep your head up.
This had nothing to do with someone being outside of their element. They were from this area it has to do with someone not caring about people lives or their families.
