Shots Fired in Alley Between R and Corcoran?

I don't know if anyone else heard this, but around 10:40 this evening there were two distinct gun shots which seemed to emanate from the alley between R St. and Corcoran, on the 1300 block.  I was sitting in our living room when I heard the shots; I immediately called 311, and a cruiser was dispatched and arrived on our block within only a couple minutes time.

I spoke briefly to the officer to tell him what I had heard and proceeded to pull back into the alley where he encountered a man hanging around by the dumpsters behind the Anna Cooper House.  As I left, the officer was questioning the man.

It's disappointing--and frightening--that shots would be fired seemingly directly behind our home.  It is encouraging, however, to see the quick response from the MPD to the call.  If nothing else, it's apparent that a call of shots fired gets them out here quickly.

For 13 years, my bedroom faced that alley and ALL sorts of things happened. Gun shots? Heard 'em. Kids ON TOP of the truck in the parking lot trying to get in DESPITE my yelling? Amazing. And bold. I could go on...but long and short of it - no surprise...sadly.

Having lived in SW, I tend to tune out the sound of gunshots, but I thought I heard them too (I'm a little further away, on the 2600 block of 16th).

also, aren't we supposed to call 911 now even in non-emergency situations. and 311 is the dc services line?

I called 311, and got connected almost immediately--and the cruiser appeared in less than two minutes. Although thinking back now, I do believe you are supposed to call 911 for everything. Oh well...

I heard that too. I thought I heard gunshots, but then came to the conclusion that it was people setting off fireworks on Corcoran Street near 13th-- it sounded as if there was a party going on. Any further details on this?

just found this blog, and will keep up, as a resident on corcoran. so... any result on the "gunshots"? There was also an ambulance in the alley between Q and Corcoran tonight, in addition to some cops asking a homeless guy to move out of the alley who had been sleeping. anyone know what the ambulance was all about?

No update yet on this incident. It is my intent to go to the Wed., May 7 ANC meeting and ask Lt. Smith about it then.

Any update after teh May 7 ANC meeting? Relatedly, I could swear I heard about a dozen gunshots at about 4:45am on Saturday, May 17 in the area. I would guess they came from just about Logan Circle, or maybe a bit to the North or East of the Circle. I then heard a bunch of sirens, so I'm pretty confident something serious happened, but I haven't found any confirmation in the papers.
